SUMMER READING
*Read aloud together with your children everyday.
*Remember that no suitcase is fully packed without a book or two.
*Purchase or borrow books on tape to listen to during long car trips.
*Visit the public library often and encourage your child to participate in the "Reading Road Trip USA" summer reading program.
*Parallel read about the same topic your child is reading and use common elements of the stories as a discussion springboard. Quick parallel reading suggestions: Sharing Susan (Eve Bunting)/Daybreak (Belva Plain); The Great Blue Yonder (Alex Shearer)/The Lovely Bones (Alice Sebold).
*Provide your child with a journal to log their summer reading adventures.
*Read lots of good books -- picture books, chapter books, novels, non-fiction . . . The links below will direct you to some great summer reading lists. Keep those pages turning!
